Progressive MS – Reducing symptoms and increasing energy in first 3 weeks of treatment
June 22nd. 2012 It is with heartfelt thanks and appreciation that I highly recommend Dr. Mui. I am waiting for a neurologist diagnosis on what is very likely MS. From the moment I called and left a message for Dr. Mui, he has shown me compassion, serious commitment to listening to my symptoms and helping me, and most promisingly: very tangible positive results. It is terrifying to realize that you have a debilitating disease. When I first came to Dr. Mui I was walking with a stiff shuffle, experiencing constant vibration in my body, and numerous seizure-like episodes. Only a few weeks before I had been working and enjoying life to some degree, although I had been dealing with extreme fatigue and occasional MS-like attacks.
I have cried to Dr. Mui, he has held my hand; he has given me hours of his time and a completely comprehensive treatment plan built around my unique symptoms. He has been nothing short of amazing and will be part of my family for life. Within days he has been able to stop all my vibrations and tremors as they arise. If I get a new attack, he is able to address my symptoms the next day—effectively. There is no better care—and it is natural. I signed of up for Dr. Mui’s three month plan, which we both agreed was the best course of action for my serious condition. Dr. Mui has seen me every day, twice a day/ for intensive acupuncture, neuro acupuncture, and skull acupuncture treatments, acupressure massage, qi gong, and herbal remedies.I had some experience with Traditional Chinese Medicine in the past, so I was comfortable with some of the terminology, as well as receiving acupuncture and brewing the Chinese herbal formulas. For people who may be new to TCM, rest-assured, Dr. Mui is one of the most experienced TCM doctor’s in his field in Canada, and the most experienced in Vancouver Island. Dr. Mui holds a PhD in the treatment of strokes and has extensive experience in neuro acupuncture for neurological issues such as MS. I have met one of the women he has treated, a former RN, who was in a wheelchair and who had suffered MS for 10 years. Today she is walking, healthy, happy and working up to 14 hour days with zero symptoms. I
am a professional business person from Vancouver and can share with you confidently that there is no need for skepticism. Dr. Mui treats his MS patients the way that MS is treated in the most advanced Chinese hospitals today. It is interesting that in Chinese hospitals an integrated western and TCM approach to medicine is applied – ultimately the best care for patients. I believe that in time, TCM will become a part of our approach to western medicine—because it works, and it is natural, it is safe and TCM treats the whole person, not just the condition. Until then, I am truly blessed to be experiencing Dr. Mui’s TCM care and I encourage all others with MS or other neurological disorders to contact this wonderful doctor for a consultation. It will likely be the best decision you make in your life. I feel it has been for me. A/Vancouver
MS – Patient arrived in wheelchair, is now walking and symptom free
2009. Three months ago, I presented to you with a 10-year diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. My body had suffered through several severe relapses which had brought spasticity, tremor, neurogenic pain, irregular heart beats and insomnia. I had been on medications for all of this for 7-10 years. As well, I had been treated for the severe relapses with high dose IV steroids and immune modulating drugs, with bad side effects. At the time of seeing you, I was very weak, my kidneys were not working well and I was retaining a lot of fluid.
I chose the 3-month acupuncture program on your suggestion and began treatment immediately. Six weeks into the program, I was totally off the medications I’d had to take for all those years. My body had gradually told me I didn’t need them anymore, as the symptoms of ongoing pain, spasticity and tremor were gone. Fortunately, my GP supported me in being treated by you, and he guided me through the process of weaning off the meds. As well, my sleep had improved so much. Sleeping through the night, a good quality sleep, no bad dreams and waking rested… it had been at least 15 years since that had occurred. As the weeks progressed, my walking became stronger, more balanced and I was able to begin going for walks and building up my stamina. I felt an inner energy I had not had for over a decade. By the end of the 3 months, I had lost a total of 35 pounds.
Thank you, Dr. Mui, for your expertise, guidance and support. Thank you, as well, to your staff. All of you have taken such good care of me. Rebecca Girouard/Victoria
Progressive MS – Eliminated symptoms – ow 14 years symptom free
1998. Dear Dr. Mui: This letter has been due for many years. This letter is both a testimonial and a thank you. You treated me in 1998. I came into your office on Christmas Eve, desperate, frightened and exhausted. I had been losing energy steadily, had lost motor movement in to my hands, in addition to the loss of motor movement I had also lost the sensation of touch. My gait was altered and becoming progressively worse. An MRI had shown demylenation of nerve sheaths. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis with a poor prognosis. Wally, you disrupted your holiday season and began treating me immediately. Coming in daily over three months’ holidays and continuing an intensive treatment of acupuncture, herbs and massage for the next three months. I prayed. Had all my mercury fillings removed from my teeth and I watched my diet. Eight years later I am completely symptom free. I live an active life, which includes sailing across the Pacific Ocean from Canada to New Zealand and living in some very primitive conditions. Although I have never gone for a repeat MRI and cannot prove that I am cured of MS clinically, functional I believe that a full cure has been achieved. Wally, thank you for your kindness and your dedication. Most of all, thank you for my health and the freedom to live the life I love. Yours truly,
Lee Hendrichs/Victoria
Pleurisy, Pneumonia and Tuberculosis Bacteria – full recovery from a serious respiratory condition
Recovery from a serious respiratory illness (Pleurisy, Pneumonia and Tuberculosis bacteria): In the first week of July, I sought out Dr. Mui because of what I had read about Traditional Chinese Medicine being effective where Western medicine failed to resolve the problem. I had already been off work due to my respiratory illness for six months, since January 5th, 2000. At the time I could not walk any distance, suffered constant chest pain, constricted breathing, wheezing, a persistent and irritating dry cough, due to the severe chest pain and shortness of breath which was worse while laying down. My symptoms immediately increased upon entering the clinic due to my sensitivity to the Chinese herb Moxa that is used in treatments of TCM.
By the time I had my first consultation with Dr. Mui, I had already seen four medical doctors and two specialists who were Respirologists, plus I had three Emergency admissions to hospital due to an inability to breathe and severe chest pain. Additionally I had been for repeated medical blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays and respiratory tests, including asthma & emphysema. Despite their initial suspicions that I was suffering from asthma, emphysema or pleurisy again, various tests disproved this. Prior to developing pleurisy and pneumonia simultaneously, in late October 1999, I had never had a history of any respiratory problems. Nor had I ever smoked. But I did test positive in a TB test for the 1st time, about eighteen month’s prior. Through my workmates I heard of multiple health problems, including several diagnosed cases of tuberculosis.
From July until late September 2000, Dr. Mui systematically used five acupuncture treatments and focused primarily on herbal treatments and dietary/lifestyle regime to deal with the individual symptoms. Dr. Mui described my syndrome in Traditional Chinese Medicine as having heat stagnation in the lungs with phlegm accumulation. Underneath there was a chronic deficiency of lung qi and preventative qi. He began treating the most severe symptoms first i.e. shortness of breath, chest pain and the dry and irritating cough. As the condition began to ease, I was able to sleep more and slowly increased my energy by late October. I saw Dr. Mui routinely two times per week during the first three months then continued every week for a diagnosis and check-in, before a herbal prescription was prepared specifically for my current symptoms. I also followed the dietary/lifestyle recommendations from Dr. Mui, which I believe aided my healing.
Dr. Mui has always extended interest and concern for my condition. Most impressive is his skill and extensive experience as a TCM doctor. Initially I was relieved to finally find a doctor who was not only going to give me hope of a recovery, but also he could predict with confidence how long it would realistically take and what exactly was necessary to do in order to heal. Up to that time no one could predict even whether I would be able to make a recovery, let alone be able to resume an active, athletic lifestyle that I had been use to my whole life. I’ve always enjoyed weekly dance classes and at least one or two other workouts per week involving either aerobics, swimming, cycling, running or hiking.
The Respiratory Specialists suspected I could possibly have the tuberculosis bacteria in my system for the past few years weakening my whole respiratory system. Then upon developing pleurisy and pneumonia at the same time last fall totally weakened my system leaving it extremely vulnerable. However, they were at a loss as to how to treat my condition or symptoms, outside of offering painkillers to deal with the chest pain.
At the time of writing this testimonial in December, I am pleased to report that I have returned to work on a part-time basis (4 days per week recently) and can even take two walks per week, for at least 30 minutes. The one setback Dr. Mui did warn me of in September was that winter would compromise my condition and once again threaten my health. He was absolutely right in that some symptoms reoccurred because of the irritating effect of the cold air on the lungs i.e. increased chest pain, susceptibility to flus/colds and shortness of breath. So I minimize exposure on cold days, get plenty of rest while remaining faithful to the regimen and am cautious not to push myself.
I have the utmost respect for Dr. Mui who has helped me through both a life-threatening illness and a hopeless situation. Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on treating the whole person since the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual are interrelated. Although I’m 75%-80% recovered, I still depend on TCM to assist me in regaining my original vitality. Without his assistance I would still be completely incapacitated and in constant pain while breathing. I would highly recommend Traditional Chinese Medicine intervention for any condition, regardless of its complexity. Dr. Mui’s enormous insight and skill as a Doctor and Healer is impressive. My Deepest Gratitude, Patricia Verdone
Testimonial – General Health
April 14, 2009. Dr. Wally Mui is the tireless and awesomely generous founder of this school of acupuncture and herbology and a third-generation Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor. I spent many hours over a long weekend in Victoria at his clinic at the school exploring various treatments and receiving something of a crash course in Chinese medicine including nutrition, acupuncture, and a wonderful nude herbal sauna that renewed me to the core. I wish I could see Dr. Mui every week! He’s the guy who got me eating congee./Denise R., Seattle WA, USA
Acute Hip, Knee and Leg Pain – Resolved
Dear Dr. Mui, I think I witnessed a miracle by coming for a acupuncture by you evry day for 2 weeks.
I suffered from acute hip, leg and knee pain. I could only get relief sitting or lying down. As soon as I stood up or walked the pain returned. I had to use a walker for support to walk my dogs. After walking for one block the pain was extreme and I had to sit down. I lived on Tylenol, up to 12 a day with little relief.
The second week of your acupuncture treatment I could easily walk from the centre to my car. Evry day I experience less pain.
I am a RN nurse and none of the conventional treatments worked. For example I had a “cat scan” x ray and the diagnosis was “moderate spinal stennosis”. This is a serious condition producing a tightening of the spinal chord and causing pain in the lower extremities.
The specialist said there was slight possibility that there would be some Relief if I lost weight and failing that I could have surgery on my spine. But you proved them wrong Dr.Mui by daily acupuncture treatment. The pain in my hips, legs and knees are getting less and less. Now I can walk, squat and exercise. The acupuncture treatment has also relieved my appetite and food cravings.
In Canada you are called a Master of Acupuncture but in Asia you would have the deserved title of Grand Master of Acupuncture and a National Treasure. We are so fortunate that you practice and teach in Victoria BC.
Thank you Dr.Mui I am so grateful for your skills. Sincerely, Elizabeth Neilson
